Macmillan Swishing Coffee Morning - October 2016

We all love fabulous new clothes but not the unfortunate side effects. Our bank managers don’t understand the importance of trendy autumn boots and buying heaps of new stuff is pretty terrible for the planet too. What’s a girl to do?

Swishing is shopping without remorse. We all bring nice, clean, presentable clothes that are lurking unloved in our wardrobe, and other girls fall in love with them and give them a good home. You might bring one sweater and take a pair of shoes, or hang a party frock on the ‘Swishing Rail’ and take a pair of skinny jeans or feather boa.

Three Easy Pieces to Transition your Wardrobe into Autumn 2016.

Having spent some time on the high street I notice many things I already have and have seen before.  GREAT!  I say, for not feeling the urge to go out and spend a fortune inventing my wardrobe, however I do feel the desire to update and stay current!  Here are a few ideas for pieces I have bought to bring my existing wardrobe into autumn 2016.

Be Dazzle Your Neckline!

Add a new necklace to adorn the neckline on any plain jumper or top and you move into the season.  There are lots of tops around already with embellished necklines which add interest to a plain staple item in your wardrobe.  By not having pre-fixed necklines, it's a more versatile way to work your wardrobe and an easy way to add life to a wardrobe staple.

Faux Fur and Luxe.

All about a touch of luxury this Autumn.  You will see lots of velvet and fake fur around.  Add a simple fur scarf that will not only keep you warm, will also add a touch of class or drama to any outfit, a dress, a jumper or coat.

Be Colourful!

Beee Colourful!  Its a must to have something of the latest seasons trends in your capsule wardrobe.  Add something of the latest colours to liven up any neutrals you have.  Move over to Navys, Slate greys and purples, from Merlot to Beetroot and Fig.  There is something for everyone.

Autumn Capsule Wardrobe 2014

Now's the time to think about what to add to your Autumn capsule wardrobe to take it in to Winter. It may be that you want to add a new seasonal colour, some pieces for the party season, and some pieces to keep you warm and stylish.
If you want to add a new colour to an existing capsule wardrobe, I would ideally add 3-4 pieces in that colour so that it can be used with all of the neutrals you already have. In this example I'm adding a new accent colour - claret (which will work well with an existing Autumn capsule based around navy and grey neutrals for example). I am also adding a completely new neutral of chocolate brown.
The chocolate pieces include casual day wear and a pair of classic boots as well as some pieces for parties. The claret pieces also include day and evening items. I have also added a bit of sparkle in gold and some neutral cream knitwear. These additions will make 21 outfits alone before you take into account the pieces you already have.
So here are the coloured groups:
First the brown neutral pieces – for a whole new neutral group add at least 3 pieces including tops and bottoms and maybe a dress and accessory.

The claret pieces add a splash of colour and work well together

The cream neutrals will mix and match with all your bottoms and the lovely gold adds a festive bit of sparkle.

With these few simple pieces you can then mix and match to make 21 outfits!  From Smart Casual to formal.  Enjoy!
